May 7, Monday

Bullet train to Kyoto.  A lady about my age, possibly older (hard to tell with Japanese) ,helps me cross the road and get to the railway station with all my luggage. At 11:10 departure, on the nose !  Trains were coming in and going out on the same track approximately every 20 minutes, five minutes for one train to leave and the next train to arrive, the cars were completely cleaned during the first 10 minutes, leaving only 5 minutes for everyone to board and the train to leave. Extremely efficient.  By 11:40, we are outside the city limits and in the countryside.

Does this bridge look familiar ?  Same shot from my excursion to Mount Fuji !   Doo-doo,  Doo-doo, Doo-doo.   What are the odds ?

At 12:00 we are passing the town of Fuji and Mt Fuji is clear today.Got some great shots.

Those are clouds at the top, not smoke from the volcano.

Houses look like ours.  Lots of agricultural areas along the way.

Water reservoir and a green house.

 Lake Hamana

 Lake Hamana

 Nice bridge !

 Lots of agricultural fields

Farms are fairly big, but many people have their own gardens

 Small town along the way

 Rice fields
At 12:50 we reach the Nagoya Train Station and make our second and last stop for passengers. Only 5 minutes and we are underway again. From the look of all the apartment buildings, the apartment sizes do not look very large. But on all the city streets and in the countryside everything is clean; absolutely to garbage anywhere. I see quite a few Makita manufacturing plants; Gilles used to love these tools, sometimes better than Black & Decker.
Panasonic Solar Arc Bldg: The Solar Ark, a unique, ark-shaped, solar photovoltaic power generation facility, offers activities to cultivate a better appreciation of solar power generation, and thereby of both ecology and science. This 315m-wide, 37m-tall facility is located in Gifu Prefecture, in the geographical center of Japan, and can be seen from the JR bullet train, which runs past on an adjacent railway track.”    Unfortunately, I missed the shot of that building, but it was very interesting.

But here is another interesting building;  one that is quite different

 Mountains between Nagoya and Kyoto

And more rice fields
We arrive at Kyoto at 13:28 on the dot and on schedule.   367 km in 2 hours 18 minutes at 270 km / hour. The stops in the Tokyo suburbs and two more along the way slowed us down slightly.

Smoking: in designated areas only,  even in the streets of Tokyo I saw areas beside the sidewalks or large buildings specifically for people to smoke;  special ashtrays that suck in the smoky air !  No butts on the streets anywhere either.
I settle into the hotel room and spend the rest of the afternoon working on my photos and blog.

My room at the Hearton Hotel

Home sweet home for one week !
