No wake up call today since I don’t have to check out of
the Okura Garden Hotel until noon. I go
down for breakfast at 9:30 and can eat a meal without having to rush. Thankfully my stomach appears to be OK and
I’m sure that the leisurely breakfast will help with my digestion.
At noon I’ve packed up, checked out and waiting for
transportation to Hotel Marvel where I will spend the next 3 nights. I say good bye to Kit, who has been an
amazing tour director / coordinator / CEO / first aid adviser / herder / people
manager, etc, etc. Cool, calm and
collected; she’s an asset to any company who will hire her. This was her first time as an escort with
GoWay, but she has led many other expeditions in the wilderness. She promised to send us info on her next
project.
George & Mary are heading for the airport and so is
Wendy, who has been a great friend and companion on this trip. We all share transportation. I’m dropped off at my hotel and they are
taken to the train station for their “Maglev”
train ride to the Shanghai International Airport and their flight home to
British Columbia.
My first impression of the Marvel Hotel entrance was
apprehensive since the same marquee is shared with the YMCA ! But the lobby on the 2nd floor
put my fears to rest. It is part of the
Jin Jian Chain and is a fancy hotel in an older building where the rooms have
all been redone with modern amenities.
I’ve got a great location on Xi
Zang Road and will finally be able to walk around and visit on my own.
But today I’m just resting, reading and dozing off. Finally some down time.
I’ve got free internet access from my room, therefore
will also be able to catch up on writing my blog and hopefully identifying the
hundreds of pictures I’ve taken during the last 2 weeks.
The bites on my legs are still driving me crazy and I
have to make an effort not to scratch.
